Tiring Weekend

With all the work I do during the week, it's always nice to have the weekends to unwind. Unfortunately, that's not gonna happen.

This weekend started with me helping out at the Silver Jubilee Home for the Aged. Ended up during admin work which was labelling all their assets for audit. Quite tiring since I had to move around the office and wards from one furniture to the next (and back again) but not as tiring as what the others did. Still, couldn't finish it since they have such a big area to cover, even with the others who have finished helping out. In the end, another 2 of us are going back next weekend to help them finish the labelling.

Direct from the home, I went for the youth ministry. Today, we talked about Mary and her dependability which is why God gave her the privilege to bear Jesus Christ. Found out she was only 14 when she got pregnant! Now that's dependability.

Later that night, went to see Over the Hedge. Well, didn't go there with the intent of seeing it but considering The Da Vinci Code and Poseidon were sold out and M:I:III had been seen by my friends previously, it was the only English movie left. No regrets though. The movie was really funny. Not many quotable quotes (in fact, I can't think of one) but the action was great! Really worth a watch if getting a laugh a minute is your thing. As it is sometimes with comedy, many of the actions were exaggerated but hey, that's what makes it funny! =P

Spent Sunday resting at home after church and lunch so manage to recuperate somewhat. Unfortunately, that meant the bills have to be paid next weekend and there goes relaxation again...

1U

Went to 1 Utama to meet up with a friend today. Boy, was that an adventure...

Since I didn't know the way there, I got directions from some other friends which was quite straightforward. Ran into my first problem when I didn't see the TV3 building. As a result, I missed the right turning and had to take the next one which was the Ikano Power Centre turnoff. (on the bright side, I now know where Ikano is as well as The Curve and Tesco)

Through some clever deduction (and a lot of guesswork and dumb luck), I manage to find my way back to 1U. "At last!" I thought. Then silly me went under the building and found myself back where I started. Haih...

So once again I had to take the Ikano turnoff and find my way back to 1U. This time, I took the right turning and manage to get into the carpark. After my mini adventure getting there, the carpark and finding my car later on was no big deal.

It struck me that in effect, I have gone to the same place 3 times in a day. How about that?

I may never use an umbrella again

Today, I walked from my office to my lab. Now, this isn't a very long journey (10 minutes long) but the interesting bit was it was raining cats and dogs. So, it doesn't take a genius to figure out I got soaked.

You know, it's not so bad, walking in the rain. After you get over the initial discomfort of having water soaking your clothes, it's actually quite nice. Just like taking a bath without soap and shampoo but with your clothes on. Quite pleasant to have the rain falling off my glasses and hair. Who said the wet look was out?!

Was completely soaked from head to toe (and I mean that literally!) but it was fun! Spent the afternoon drying off while doing my work in the cold lab but no cold!

Ooooo... here's something else I discover: hair and shirt dries the fastest. The hardest parts to dry is actually shoes, socks and any clothing at the waist area. Course, once your shirt and pants are dry, you don't actually feel the discomfort anymore. And it only took me a couple of hours before I was dry enough to be comfortable. Not bad...

Having done that, there no longer exist a reason for me to use an umbrella. So... anyone want one?

Marker

Quick note: This is the 5th post today. I think this is the most number of posts I've ever posted in a day before. By the way, other than these 5 posts, there's no new ones since February.

In a testament to my busyness with work, church, getting my place cleaned up and settling down, I have not been able to do much online. If Intel did not allow windows messenger, I would not have been online for 3 weeks. All my emails have new mails in them whenever I check. (Considering I have 2 that usually don't have email for weeks) The 2 which have emails nearly everyday always show 20+ new mails when I log in. I have not visited the Low Yat forum except to see pictures faster. And of course, I haven't blog in 2 months now (but that's not a record sadly enough).

Also, I have not been able to do any exercise/sport since I got here, I drove my car down to KL for the 1st time 2 weeks ago and before that trip, my last time down was mid March. Actually, it's kinda weird how whenever I start doing something after a long time, people only comment on it once I've done it more frequently. Hmm...

Latest update.

Ok people, I know you've suffered but bear with me for a little while longer.

I've moved to Springfield condo just before CNY, have gotten all necessary appliances and conveniences in the apartment, getting busier but growing more in work plus being more active in church. There's still some way to go before I would consider being settled down in Penang yet though.

Due to a couple of friends who came up to Penang, I now know more places to eat and places to go to. Also, more familiar with roads around Georgetown now. Give me 6 more months and I'll know Penang roads better than KL and PJ roads, heh. Quite settled with working life in Intel and my aparment is comfortable enough. Only thing left to do is to pack up the kitchen, unblock the bathroom, get a cleaner and newspaper delivery, buy a gas tank and I'll be all set for Penang. Phew!

Thank you visitors!

Here is a quick thank you shout out to all those who still visited my site though there was nothing new for 2 months. Your visits have spurred me on to post more frequently and habitually.

More updates, working life is very stressful. There's always some case to do or issue to tackle. The cliche to enjoy student life because it's the best time of your life is certainly true. You have more free time then too. Though there's no need to work outside 9 to 5 (in most cases), chances are you've spent so much time and energy at work, home is really more a place to relax and unwind. Let's put it this way, in the 7 months I've been here, I have not yet been able to be more active in outside activities. Also, I have not been able to properly clean up my apartment due to using weekends to recuperate from a hard week's work.

1st post using my own streamyx.

Well, 2nd post actually but the first doesn't count coz that's a roll up. Anyways, just to mark the occasion when I finally post something from my room in Penang!!! Wooohooo!!

Speaking about streamyx, actually TMNet was not very efficient. First of all, it took them more than a week to process our application. The best thing about the whole issue was... by the time we got back to them a week later, they still haven't done anything about it!

And then, when we finally got the internet (we decided to set it up ourselves), the internet stop working after 5 days! For reasons unknown to all except TMNet, we could not surf. It would not have been such an issue if we didn't have to bring our modem+router (we didn't buy TMNet's modem) back to the shop just for them to confirm that it's TMNet's problem. Sheesh...

On the plus side, the TM Point we went to at Krystal Point was quite empty so service was relatively fast and there was no problem at the counter. Also, their hotline works till very late and can usually reach them (though they have a separate number for technical support, go figure). Here's hoping to trouble free internet for the rest of my time here.

Quick update

Whooaaa.... 10 weeks since I last posted. Means I owe 10 posts up till now.

Alright, quick update on what's been going on since the end of February. I have bought a washing machine, water filter and subscribe to streamyx. Actually, it's due to streamyx that I've not blog for so long. Gave up going to cyber cafes to blog once I started applying for it. And after I got it, got busy in the office plus couldn't get back the blogging habit. But, that's all gonna change now!

So look out as I post more and more often (especially to catch up with the 10 posts!)
